ABOUT US

JHW SURVIVAL SKILLSNORTH WALESCOMPANY DESCRIPTIVEJHW Survival Skills is an organisation based in Snowdonia in North Wales utilising sites within woodland and other local areas lending themselves ideally to the medium of survival training. The company was established in April 2015 by John Wood the Chief Instructor to meet a need for entry level survival training. John has 23 years of military experience having qualified for the coveted Green Beret in 1986 and spending the majority of his military career within 3 Commando Brigade RM, operating in countries as far afield as Kuwait, Canada and Northern Norway.John left the Royal navy after 23 years attaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer in the Fleet Air Arm deploying on many operations and detachments wherever 3 Commando brigade deployed.John has also spent 4 years attached to the British army in a training role, delivering military training and exercise evaluation to all 3 Armed Services across the globe. His in depth survival skills range from desert to Arctic survival, having spent 8 winters in Norway undergoing Arctic warfare training with commensurate levels of operating in harsh environments which are attached to each deployment. In recent months, John has been a freelance accredited Survival Instructor at the Bear Grylls Survival academy in Llanystumdwy, North Wales.JHW SURIVAL SKILLS Ltd offers entry level survival training focusing on the priorities of survival, such as survival priorities theory and practical aspects of shelter building, to include camp-craft, theory and practical survival fire lighting, signal fire construction, foraging for local seasonal flora and water gathering/purification from clean sources. The survival course offered would be of 4 hours duration (flexible due to group size – ie more time spent where required to develop skills, the course would never be foreshortened) covering all the aforementioned aspects of survival in as much depth as students need, culminating in a small final exercise where students would draw on theory from earlier in the course. This would entail scenario based survival skills implementation and would take place in the form of survival shelter building, fire setting, water sourcing and signal fire building. All under direct Course Instructor supervision and assistance.Course size would be no more than 10 students to allow for full immersion in the course content and to reduce the student/instructor ratio.Initially, courses would be run over weekends.JHW Survival Skills is covered by £5M in public liability insurance with a leading insurance company for outdoor activities.John is full DBS checked and certified/It is hoped that the course will ignite interest in survival skills in all students attending the course to develop those skills sadly lost and forgotten in the fast pace of modern life.
